John’s Gospel: True Belief – Chris Hemphill

July 25, 2010 – For the gospel author John, belief was one of the most important aspects of Jesus’ ministry. He consistently made record of Jesus speaking about the importance of true belief — both belief in Him and in the one who sent Him (God the Father). John even says the reason he wrote his gospel was so that people might believe in Christ (John 20:31). As we dig into John 12 this week, we will look at a few different kinds of believers, and the consequences of each one.

Week 28 – John’s Gospel Discussion Questions

  1. Read John 12:37-50
  2. When you are asked to believe something what is it that you are being asked to do? What makes something easy or hard to believe?
  3. As we have talked about belief in the Book of John how are “knowledge” and “commitment” associated with one another?
  4. Read Verses 37-40. How can we guard ourselves against having a hardened heart?
  5. Read Verses 42-43. Why do we love the praise of men more than the praise of God?
  6. How can we help one another keep God’s thoughts about us more central and more important than man’s thoughts?
